The Sorcerer

by Nancy Coffee

I always thought ‘tis we decide our fate
But lately my own logic I debate
For in my mind a Sorcerer I see
I fear he’s put a dreadful spell on me
At midnight I did see him on the hill
His dark robes swaying, eyes most cold and still
Though I was hidden by the evergreen
I felt inside my heart that I’d been seen.
With just one motion of his slender hand
He made the moon depart at his command
Then slowly turned his gaze to where I hid
And saw me there, oh yes, I know he did.
For ever since misfortunes held my hand
And lost forever is the life I’d planned.
And there inside a wood behind a tree
I know the sorcerer is watching me.
