Time Travel

by Gary Every

Like a car driven too fast
or a forward with no past
like a transmission with no reverse
a transgression with no remorse
an act without rehearsal
a fulcrum with no reversal
a single instant crystallized

A jewel of burnt silver
a sliver of time
that has been stopped
suddenly. Found forever guilty
of the crime of being pretty
as a picture.

An instant frozen from distant
to present, just a photograph or maybe
a holograph, but this camera thing
resembles no time machine you’ve ever
heard of but who ever accused
a jumbo jet of resembling Icarus’
wax and feather wings?
