To Awaken the Machine
by John M. Kopet

It was man’s love for the machine
that had awakened the dream
and the machine arose above man
and claimed the land.

Now the twenty-second century
is so dark and cold,
life so weary,
life so old.

For the coming shadow has stolen the light
yet you never see stars (when comes the night?)
for all dark is our plight,
with nowhere to take flight.

(all dark is our plight)
(nowhere to take flight)
