A Short Game at Night

By Romy Shinn

Frivolous ghosts chase the day
and play flat Solitaire Bones
with bearded sorcerers that may
cast a spell to turn them stones
or black walnuts or stale brown hay.
Still, they laugh and joke while muses
fuse thunder into lands of clay
where Queen Anne’s Lace shoots
above dirt, as stones roll away.
